Carl Zappa called Sue Oatey's resignation from Point Park University a "major loss" but said the promotion of the former senior director of student services to her position as dean of student affairs is a smart step by the administration.

"I think [Keith Paylo] is going to do a great job," said Zappa, United Student Government president.

Point Park University may soon be home to its own police force that will have powers of arrest and the ability to carry weapons. 

Last month, the university was granted the right to form a university police force by the Court of Common Pleas in downtown Pittsburgh.

After 4,600 miles, a heavy flood and one adopted pet rat, two IUP students reached their Anchorage, Alaska destination - all by bicycle - and raised $5,500 for the American Cancer Society along the way. Michael "Fred" Frederick (senior, art education/studio) and Dan Esten (senior, dietetics and nutrition) arrived in Anchorage Aug.

Members of the IUP community gathered Thursday, Aug. 28 at 8 p.m. in the HUB Ohio Room for the Democratic National Convention watch party. As the DNC coverage aired on a giant projection screen, the 14 students in attendance participated in trivia about Barack Obama, the Democratic candidate for president of the United States, and Joe Biden, Obama's pick for vice president.
