When Ian Mackaye and his Teen Idles released "Dischord #1"("Minor Disturbance") in 1980, the heart of one of the nation's most revered music scenes skipped a beat and went into overdrive. Youth out of step with the world and seeing red led a renaissance of resistance, with Dischord Records the vanguard of Beltway beat making.

Power is never taken
Only yielded
And I had surrendered myself to you
Even after you proved it wasn't what you wanted
I sat there
Chasing a fantasy of what could have been
Actively denying the obvious
Rather than accepting the reality of what is
Or rather what isn't
And what never could be
We're cut from two different pieces of cloth
You striped and I polka dotted
It was never meant for our two worlds to cross
Let alone come together
Yet instead I shed my intuition
Booted out common sense
Wanting desperately for things to work
But it just wouldn't come naturally
And I understood why
Cause it was never meant to be
So I retreated: broken hearted
You: never knowing just what had just taken place
To you it was just an act, and there was nothing wrong in that
You didn't see how our universes intertwined
How I got a piece of yours and you got a piece of mine
I compromised my piece of mind
Steady looking towards the future
With someone who couldn't see past today
And you never noticed the way things began to change
But I did
Yet I was so lost in your world
Couldn't find the EXIT sign
So I just climbed deeper and deeper
Farther away from myself
Creating a world that wasn't mine for the keeping
Feeling powerless to free myself
Until reminded you only had my power
Because I relinquished it unto you
So I put down that white flag
Stopped making excuses and begin to create my own reality
So tired of living in somebody else's
I took back my power from all the places I had left it
Retracing my steps like Hansel and Gretel
And now, I'm home again
This time with wisdom that surpasses the old
I'll never go back to that place where ignorance can bind me
Cause now I know a greater truth
Which is the power vested in me

Ok, so beyond the obvious of what this poem is about, it has a deeper meaning than can be found on the surface.

Maybe you've noticed them, too. Here are the staff's choices for the ones that have the potential to make our lives a little easier to bear.

Hail Morganites! The fall semester of '08 is here with us, and once more, the halls and lecture halls at Morgan state are brimming over with life, laughter, and cheers. There is a steady stream of old and new faces. A three month holiday is long indeed, and yet, Spring seems like it was only yesterday.

According to Urban Dictionary, "splurge" has a dual meaning - one, "to spend money freely with no remorse" or two, to "bust a nut." In either sense of the word, this column will explore the romance of dating and the desire of sex enough to keep your libido satisfied and wanting much, much more.

In the history of abortion politics, it was a key event: the 1992 move by Democrats to deny Pennsylvania Gov. Robert Casey Sr., an opponent of abortion rights, a speaking spot at the party's national convention that year.

I was sunning on my yacht the other day when a thought struck me: Brad Pitt is hotter than a woman's vagina after a trip to a Mexican brothel. It seems that not everyone agrees with me, though, and some would even go so far as to say that George "I Give Smug Oscar Speeches" Clooney is finer.

I've accepted that my generation has replaced the old with the new. We've skipped standing in long lines for online shopping, replaced anticipating snail mail with the immediacy of e-mail and traded our Walkmans for iPods. Over time, it is inevitable that technology will completely change the way we go about our daily lives.

I'm thinking about purchasing an Apple computer. But perhaps I should wait until their legal woes subside, as it might allow for more inexpensive options in the near future.
This past July, Apple filed a lawsuit against Psystar Corp., based in Miami, Fl., for copyright infringement.

Buying gadgets for school can get expensive. Here is a short guide to some inexpensive -- yet quality -- electronics that have become almost a necessity for the contemporary college student.
First, do you really need to drop a grand on a laptop if all you're doing is typing reports, doing PowerPoint presentations and checking Facebook? No.
